Mr. Shashi Tanna has been elected as President of the Association of MultimodalTransport Operators of India (AMTOI) for 2012-13.

Earlier, at its 13th AGM, AMTOI felicitated Dr S. B. Agnihotri, IAS, former Director-General of Shipping, for his contribution to promoting the concept of multimodalism in India. Dr Agnihotri was the Joint DG and subsequently the DG-Shipping from 2009 to 2012 during which the multimodal transport industry saw some pathbreaking policydecisions that have helped the sector at large.
The occasion also saw the release of “Logi(sti)cally Speaking”, a white paper on the future of logistics in India, authored by Ernst & Young along with AMTOI. Mr Biren Parekh, partner at E&Y, explained the salient features of the analysis.
In his address, Dr S. B. Agnihotri, who is now the Financial Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture, urged AMTOI to be an active participant in reducing the logistics cost of moving agricultural commodities within the country. He wanted it to be involved in the National Centre for Cold Chain Development, the green grid for the movement of agri products, in developing agricultural logistics parks, and in the small farmers’ agri business consortium. He stressed on AMTOI’s role as an integrator in this supply chain in order to enhance the value of the commodities transported.
Mr Anand Sheth, outgoing President, assured Dr Agnihotri of AMTOI’s active involvement in these initiatives and in taking up new challenges for the benefit of the fraternity.
The AGM and get-together were attended by a cross-section of AMTOI members and representatives from the trade.
